On the back? I think they are little barnicles or something, they look like curled up worm tubes. idk what they are lol

do you have any blue legged hermits...they will work on that hair algae too...i have a 12gal and i added 5 when i had an outbreak, and they ate it all

Hey man great tank. I myself just set up my first 20 gal reef tank today. Can you explain your filter Fro your 20? I bought an aqua clear and was going to do El fabs mod to it. And is there aeration in there for the fish? Like airstone? 10 years doing cichlids first time reef attempt. Been lurking on this site for the last month or so gathering Info. I'd post a pic but my tank is extremely cloudy from putting in the sand. Hoping it will be clear by tomorrow w the filter running a sponge.

was there a filter in the 20 gal tank? I will be doing this http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/inde...&#entry2004830 to my AC70 this week. Im new to salt water, and i wasnt sure how your filtration was set up.

I wasnt sure if you just had a fuge of sometype on there. I wanted to make sure i was going in the right direction. Since I just have a 20 gal high, 2 t5ho 25 corel bulbs, live rock, sand, and a HOB filter.

Right now my tanks all milky from the sand. So i turned off my filter this morning and turned on the power head, hoping that it will settle some of the sand.

Fetto keep your filter on and powerheads on the dusty water is completely normal and you will want all that to settle and start being filtered by the rocks. On my 20g I just used my whisper 30 and ran carbon through it, I have always had to change the filter sock and carbon like once every 2 weeks or so because it gets clogged with detritus, The refugium is an awesome idea and I would prob be doing that if I didnt have a sump in the mix already, so go that route for sure! sounds like you have the makings for a nice tank and since your on the forums snooping around asking questions your headed in the right direction

HAH Bowels, thanks a bunch! Ive already wiped out my paycheck, and tax's are on their way so I should have that by this weekend incase I need anything else. I hope soon my tank can be as magnificent as yours.

I added a polishing pad to my AC70 and the water cleared right up over night. I can now see my rocks and everything in there. I also noticed I have an abundance of Aiptasia on one rock, so hopefully the tank cycles in the next 3 weeks so I can add a peppermint shrimp to eat that ****.

I followed your route from what you posted and ordered myself the 17lb nano special from Gulfliverock.com and they should be here tomorrow , to add to my 10lb of rock already. I dont want to post pictures now, as the tank looks like crap with all the sand dust on everything, so I will once i clean it up and get all the rock in.

Hey Fetto, I would suggest you get a syringe and inject a little bit of vinegar into the middle part of the aptasia (mouth) and nuke as many of those suckers as you can before you are finished with your cycle, now you dont have to worry so much about ph changes.

I just got my RODI unit in today!! soo psyched, also it came with this little thing you just screw on a nozzle so all the plumbing and stuff I was planning on doing is completely unnecessary! Maybe when I get a house of my own instead of an apartment Ill put it in permanently. I had my water checked by ARC today and my params were perfect except for my nitrates (which is why I was at ARC to get water for a water change) so that makes me happy. I have also moved my rock around a bit Ill post some pictures soon, my gorgonian was not happy in the corner he wasnt getting the flow he needed, and the brain in the middle was getting too much flow, so i swapped them. Well see how that goes. Now that I have my RODI the sump is underway!

You do not want to put air stones in reef tanks. The added oxygen isn't good for it. (unless its inside a skimmer)
But yeah the AC70 fuge mod is really awesome. My friend and I almost did that a couple years ago but then we ended up getting a biocube instead.

Don't waste your money and chop up an Aquaclear. Just get a Marina or Finnex breeder box and strap a pico pump to it. It has baffles already and you dont need to cut up its components to mod it. My .02 though. Nice system Bowels, I wish I could purchase as many corals as you do LOL. I take it step by step though.

, Ill get pictures up soon the zoas are just going nuts. I cleaned out my old tank last night, and ordered my sump baffles today Should be ready saturday.... so Ill have my sump going this weekend

I could sue the extra flow and water quality. I was waiting for my RODI unit to have a sump just because of the evaporation, im already constantly adding water and before I had the RODI unit it was a 40 min drive to the nearest saltwater store to get water. Such a relief now

Ok so I came home and my brain coral was off of his skeleton... I found him in the tank and performed "surgery" I put him in a glass tupperware with a rubber cap blocking the light, and for a few hours I used a turkey baster to exchange water with the tank...after a few hours he was open and happy. Then i cut off the skeleton with a razor from the rock in the tank. I glued the skeleton onto a frag stand, and then took the flesh part and opened it up and with a qtip I dried off the slime and wetness from the bottom of the flesh, and applied a little glue. Then put his flesh part onto the skeleton. I had a nice cushy dental floss ( like the cushy fabric kind) tied into a little loop, and I very gently secured the flesh onto the skeleton. I then replaced the water in the tupperware and left the little brain medical patient in the tupperware, covered for a few hours. I plan to put him in a very low flow low light area after a while. I figured letting him float around like a blob would end in his death, so why not try SOMETHING.

I bought a hydor, smart wave pump controller, and I currently have both powerheads on the left side of the tank both going on and off every 15 seconds. The tank clearly has a more random flow pattern now, and there is a slight wave effect and surface agitation

I am very happy with it, and I think the corals will be better off as well. I will be building the sump tonight after i ge thome from work, and I will be taking pictures for that so Ill post my setup with pictures when I do that tonight.

So excited haha
