xenia not pulsing and something happened to it's feather like things!

Hey,

I had this Xenia coral for 2 and a half months and it was fine and it was growing nicely. But last Thursday I cleaned my tank and I siphoned around it and it too. And then the beautiful feather like things have shrunk and they aren't pulsing! Will it be alright and what did I do wrong? siphoning it !

It is my honest opinion that you don't want these things in your tank, but I will leave that topic alone for now.

I would not worry too much about them not pulsating. If your levels are OK, they will come back in a few days or weeks. These are considered by many, me included, as the "weeds of the reef tank". As time goes by, you will realize how much truth this comment holds.

Just let them be and wait. They will be fine. In most cases, this is caused by one of the below:
  • They got stung by something else on the tank
  • Your PH is a bit low(Fix this if this is the case) (The only thing they are good for IMHO, as an early warning system of PH issues)
  • Your light is too strong for them
  • You have a very low nutrient tank, which is good!!!

Again, very unlikely that they will totally die, as they are really hard to kill.

@ webmanny

Thank you so much!

May be it was my PH and I checked it and added reef buffer on Friday which is the day after I siphoned it. But still it's been 3 days. Hopefully it will come back. Oh I heard about xenia being weeds..but I don't want to throw it out! I love that coral! =]

You did a water change, just the change in water stressed them out a little. Any time you do maintenance like this, expect to see reactions from your corals.

Any dosing done that would get into the flow direction of the xenia to maybe cause a burn\melt of the crowns?
