Temperature

My tank fluctuates between 79.3 and 80.3 with no live stock. Temperature wise, is this acceptable for a fish only with live rock tank...

I always hear 77-78 but I would think up to 81-82 should be ok?

Thoughts?

As long as the system has no corals in it, higher temperatures should be safe enough. I targeted 82 F with soft corals, but I didn't need margin to deal with upward spikes. Even for fish only, I'd try to keep it below 83-84 or so, but different species likely will tolerate different temperature ranges. Good aeration capacity becomes more important as the temperature rises, as oxygen solubility drops. That's a fairly minor issue over the range we're discussing, though.

Thanks. Sounds like it should be ok for fowlr tank. No corals will be present.

I agree. The tank should be fine.

Honestly I think even for corals that should be fine. I see temps like yours sometimes during the summer at my house. I see no ill effects on my coral or Maxima clam. I fluctuate between 78-80, and in summer ive seen 81 to 82 for a day or 2.

I agree that should be fine. The Red Sea gets warmer than 82, and a 1 degree swing is no problem.

I think 81 to 82 is ok .FWIW , I target 78 but dips to 77 and occasional peaks to 80 do no harm.
