High Magnesium in New Tank
My tank is about a month and a half old. I am using Red Sea Coral Crystals and all of my tests have been normal or close to normal except Magnesium which is very high. I am using RODI water, and am not dosing anything. The only inhabitants I have are snails and a few Hermit crabs, Should i be concerned about the High Mg levels? What causes it, and what should I do to bring it down. Thanks

What is mag reading? 1200 to 1400 are optimal readings but I have run tanks as high as 2100 with no ill effects. Some people run 1700 to 1800 to fight off algae.

That's OK. I certainly wouldn't add any more mag, but you shouldn't have any problems at 1600.

Yup like I said some people run it at 1700 to 1800 to fight algae.

Thanks all. Guess I don't have to worry about the Mg levels
