mxett love that tank. Very minimalistic. A black finished cabinet or silver finish would have been perfect to match your lighting. This thread is uber, as my current tank is in works to try and meet some of these modern standards, for sure my next reef will be. I always looked at my tanks to be furniture, not really science projects and it's very hard to create that when dealing with...well science projects.
I love looking at these modern tank posts over and over as it's really the reason I got into this hobby to really give my living space a striking view of art. It is art as much as it is a science. Keep this post going with more pics!

justin, we agree that room looks perfectly liveable. it's just missing a tank
in general, america does not have an appreciation for modern design. like in japan and europe, they are willing to pay more for top of the line fish and corals, the same is true for many of their homes. in the states we know the classics: wegner, eames, noguchi, etc....but we are unaware of the up and coming...marcel wanders it's like futbol, here in the states there isnt much of a following. i prefer the eclectic mess that is japanese style lighting. the physical alliteration can look good. as far as i know the spots they use have not been tested...i have a feeling an MzOne MT250 will fair well as the Super Cool Spots in terms of PAR. since switching to spots, algae growth on the glass of our tank has reduced significantly. the direct-ability of them is great, light only where you want it. will- those modular stands are great...it's got my brain thinking

My father actually lives in Singapore and is in Japan on Monday. He then travels to Vancouver to see me. I have asked him to find those spot lights for me. Send him the pic...I will have to see if I can convert them to work in North America but we will see. I will keep you posted. I will be in Singapore in a few months as well and plan to go to Japan to check all this stuff out first hand. I was in Singapore last year and the modern interior style/design is very prominent. I have seen it more and more here in Vancouver too. Its getting popular here very fast. Might be because this is a VERY expensive city to live in (with 500 sq. feet condos starting around $450, 000) and a lot of people move here from Asia with lots of money. A majority of the city is being rebuilt with multi million/billion dollar high rises. A chance to update the style I guess. |

check out delightings.com they guy is out of singapore and has some great MH pendents...the reflectors look to be very well designed.
if you are able to have some things picked up from japan and care to do a favor for a fellow reefer lmk we may be visiting vancouver in the spring. i hear it's a great city, but have never been.

i apologize, should have PM'd them to justin...i did not mean they look modern just a well designed reflector and other light products in singapore.
in the right situation though they could look alright and are a candidate for barn doors. imo, the look to be better made and more polished than PFO's. sometimes industrial works well modern.

I have always thought this aquarium in the Radisson SAS Hotel Berlin looked pretty "modern". My brother has visited it with my dad and said it was kinda scary being underneath it! I would love to go see it one day.

That would be a fun dive!!
I like Modern design, can't say that anything of mine fits that category right now; however, my house will be furnished with modern/industrial in mind. This thread is a great design center, kudos to all who are a part of it. |

Here's a view looking around my living room. I'm still waiting for the woman to decide on a color for the door and window coverings. The cabinets are painted black right now but will be faced with something else, along with getting new doors. The two tanks are separated by a 6' opening that leads into my office. The tank on the left is an all-in-one and the tank on the right now has a 75 gallon sump in the basement.
