Protein skimmer troubles in 14 biocube

Please forgive me if I posted this in the wrong place but I have a 14 biocubewich I placed a Coralife biocube protein skimmer in.the problem I’m having is I have it sitting in the first chamber by itself and have it as far into the water as I can but the bubbles are so far down it’s not skimming.i checked the air line for pinching and it’s a new air stone that’s screwed in all the way so no leaks it producing bubbles just not high enough to do any good.any ideas would be welcome

ive seen folks use bigger air pumps...whisper 10 (i would go bigger and put a valve on it) if i remember correctly...i used that skimmer for a while and decided to take it out...maybe a bigger air pump then add a valve to fine tune it would help
