Stainless safe for Water storage?

Been looking for a water storage solution for my ATO, that can sit in plain site and fit the decor of the room. I would like to use a vintage water cooler that is stainless steel. Can this be safely used? other wise any ideas for lining it.

Thanks

I wouldn't use anything metal, either, without knowing exactly what it was. A plastic milk jug should be okay, or any food-grade plastic. Stainless steel might leach small amounts of various elements. It's probably safe, but I wouldn't take the chance.
