Does increasing lighting cause algae blooms
I currently have a 140 watt compact unit for a 50g reef system. I am thinking of increasing the lighting to 280 watt. Is this likely to cause an algae bloom. Thanks

if you have nutrient and or phosphate issues then yes it will add fuel to the fire. if parameters are in check you should be ok

Increasing you lighting can cause a algae bloom but, that usually happens when you increase your lighting alot like halides. I also dont think you will have a problem.
