Sump Return Plumbing Dry Fit

I did some dry fitting for the return from my new Quiet One 9000. Let me know your thoughts on how this will work out. I still have some work to do, but the general idea is here. (Ignore the wiring mess, that is next on the list!)

The backside pipe to nowhere will run back to the sump for future use as needed. Drive Carbon/GFO, water changes, etc. For now, I will put a valve on it to be ready whatever may be needed.

The actual returns will be hooked up as seen here. They will utilize the existing flex tubing to the new hookup points. I decided to keep the flex hookup to cut down on any more elbows needed and to avoid replacing the existing bulkhead installations.

Well, I'm thinking the pipe on the wall in the first pic is going to cause problems...

To be honest, though, its hard to tell how effective plumbing is if we don't know the goal. What's the plan, man?

Mike,

Looks pretty good. Just one thing to keep in mind; since your new barb fittings are alot closer to one return than the other, I would run the same length on both return lines from that point. I know you have ball or gate valves in there, but I am believer of matching the head pressure both sides and then adjusting flow rather than just relying on the gate or ball valve to hopefully do it. My opinion only.

Not sure what you mean by the plan? Not trying to do anything to fancy... just return the water back to the tank as described. I am not saying my descriptions are the best, but do you have anything in specific that is not clear? I'd definitely like to know before I glue it up.

Andy, I'll give you a call tonight if that is OK to discuss your suggestions. I'd ask you to swing by with your pH probe, but assume you'll be playing with the latest new toy!

First and foremost, a big thank you to Andy for coming out with his testing supplies and verifying my parameters. I owe a great debt to him, Bill and all those who helped with the move. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Having given the return plumbing some thought and talking with Andy, I have come up with v2. I think this provides better flow with greater practicality.

Still have a little tweaking, but again, you can see the concept.

The main feed to the tank is a much smoother shot.

The hookup is now using this Y. Thought it would be more of a balanced distribution than the older design. I am using this Y simply because I had it lying around. I may replace it with one without a clean out.

That makes a whole lot more sense!!! Now the water changes will be even easier. Looks really nice. You have the most organised plumbing I have seen in a long time!

Oh..I can't remember whop had asked me how Michael was cutting is PVC and getting it so clean edged, but I saw the magic today (Pun intended) A small miter box with hand saw :-) Then a PVC de-burrer (if he found it).
