Pendents Vs. Combo Fixtures

Which is 'better'? Something like an Icecap Pendent or a combo fixture like the Sunlight Maristar or Current USA...

Let the battle begin

Love my pendants. Don't have supplemental actinics though. Kind of a toss up.

Exactly, Pendants are nice but no supplemental. You need to find the right bulb for your look if you get pendants. I run 2x175 XM 20k's and love the look.

Bump anyone else?

Here is what I am thinking for mine. Two Icecap pendent and balasts 2X250 with Phoenix 14K's

Really I think it is going to come down to personal choice. I, myself, couldn't see running just a pendent. Sure my actinics enhance the color of my MH bulbs a bit, but the main reason I like that is that I can see the tank without having the MHs on.

Ill take both. I think pendants offer more choices for you as far as pendant quality and ballasts.

then I pair it with a nice T5 fixture. you need a wider tank though. but now I have options, redundancy, and modular design, I can replace, upgrade, or whatever else any single peice of the lighting system without affecting the rest.

comes at a price though...

I have thought of selling my Maristar as it weights 45 lbs. and is heavy to lift up. We actually have a motorized hoist in the garage to install so I can just press the button.

Pendants would be easier to work under, but then I'd have to add the extra actinic lights for dawn/dusk.

I would use a nice hanging fixture if the tank were in a room. However, for an inwall tank, I'd probably use pendants if I were to do it again.
