Trusted Online Stores

Pretty simple question really, should I avoid any of these retailers. Not sure whats going on but every store seems to have a plastic plant and a damsel for sale with everything else out of stock. So if you know of some other suppliers I should look at I'd appreciate it, especially for awesome zoa colors.

I believe aquariumcreations is one to avoid. If they're the company i'm thinking of they've changed names multiple times do to poor business practices. I've never heard of the other sites you mentioned. As far as good vendors liveaquaria is probably the most popular and bluezooaquatic is another good choice.

Bluezoo, LA, Austin Aqua Farms, and cherry corals are a few I have ordered from before with no problems.

Let me throw in AquaCave for supplies. They price match +10% of the difference. Usually send me the coupon in a few hours you just provide the link for the item.

As for me, its fish.

Bluezoo screwed me once, I ordered a group of fish from them to save on shipping and without notice they didn't include one. They said thats not how it works in todays industry which is bs because saltwaterfish.com has no problem doing it. Also, they only gave store credit for a DOA. My 2 cents there.

On another note, blue zoo and live aquaria are sold out on like everything.

I think that you’ll have a hard time finding any websites worse than these!

Maybe because they are trusted? I just set up an email alert and wait.

Personally I have not had good luck with live aquaria.
Had fish arrive dead. Received others that look nothing like the picture ( and I mean not even close!)
Had another of theirs die in QT.
To their credit they have tried to make things right but who needs the hassle?
Rather pick out my exact specimens
Btw you can do that on LA in the divers den but the prices are much higher.

A fish that ‘looks nothing like the picture’ could be a difference between M and F or juvi and adult colors... but that is easy to check on.

Not many sites have ‘inexpensive’ WYSIWYG fish... best to shop lfs for that option.

Here is a pic of my orange back fairy wrasse compared to the pic on their site.
His coloring has not changed.
He’s a great fish, but come on man!

Your fish looks stressed which could be the reason for the lack of color.

I dunno man, I’m not a fish whisperer.
All I can say is that I’ve had him for months and he seems very happy, always out and about. No problems with his tankmates.
Great personality.
Just not very colorful!

looks like it was in a quarantine when the pic was taken, which is usually stressful, is it still in there? What are you feeding?

You are correct. That pic was taken in QT. He has been in my DT for months now. Had some issues with my melanurus going after him the first couple of days but they have been very good together ever since.
Everybody gets fish frenzy.

I think the problem is that 'He's' NOT a he... Female colors are not as bright as the male... Do you have any other fairy wrasses in your tank?

I do not and this possibility was pointed out to me.
Usually LA will mention if there are significant color differences between male and female or between juvenile and adult.
In this case they did not. If they had , I would have requested female only and if they could not have made that guarantee I would have not made the purchase.

Just thinking that adding a smaller female fairy wrasse may prompt your orangeback to turn male... I always buy female wrasses and they usually all turn male

I recently considered purchasing one so I did a little research and some people reported them losing color. Regardless I just don't think this has anything to do with LA.

I consider myself a wrasse collector, had 40 (mostly Fairy & Flasher) in my 450g tank till the seam split... Will probably have about the same # in my new 6'x5' 500g, BUT I will not even consider the orangeback again because they never did well in any of my tanks.

What sort of issues did you have with the orange back?
Just curious.

And apologies to the OP for unintentionally hijacking your thread!

Poor color but mostly poor survival rates, tried them at least 4 times over past 10 yrs
