Custom 18x18x18" cube in England - ZERO equipment visable (LOTS of pictures!)

I've been about on nano-reef.com but I thought you guys might like to see.

The tank is an 18x18x18" frameless cube running a closed loop through two bulkheads in the bottom of the tank. I'm using a Eheim 1262 (900GPH) pump for curculation and I've also got a Aquamedic Mini chiller and a heater in the closed loop. There's 33lbs of live rock and the light is an Arcadia 150W Metal Halide. I built the cabinet myself. It's now been set up for 4 weeks and I'm just getting rid of the hair algae.

And as they say, a picture speaks a thousand words!

The plumbing setup

Inside the cabinet. This is before the chiller and external heater were added.

No filter, no skimmer just live rock and twice weekly 20% waterchanges.

I am going to add a Eheim external filter but I'm going to put a pond light inside it and use it as a refugium for growing cheato. That will allow me to run carbon and some filter floss if needed, but it's been running for a month now with nothing but live rock and good circulation and the water is crystal clear.

Very nice look. Twice weekly 20% WCs seems like a lot of work. You may want to stick that Eheim in a sump with a skimmer and change 20% per month. Regardless, nice tank!

It's only 18 gallons so he only has to change like 4 gallons. Very simple, I like it.

Yes it's in the middle of my living room.

I can't run a sump as it's a closed loop.

Cable ties to the rescue! (I hope!!!).

I do want it to attach itself to this rock and when it was superglues here it opened up more than it ever has. So I used a 2mm drill bit to drill a couple of holes through the stem for cable ties to tie it to the rock. Hopfully it will attach itself to the rock over the next few weeks and I'll then remove the cable ties.

(Excuse the hair algae, it is starting to wave a white flag!)

I like your Torch, and Plate corals. How is your Scooter Dragonette Doing? I just got one a little while ago. They're very personable little guys.

The purple plate is growing very well. In just over two weeks it's grown over an inch in diametre! I hope it doesnt grow too much more otherwise I'll be needing a larger tank!

Wow, looks nice. You obviously don't have kids. My kids, or nieces and nephews would end up bumping it, or accidentally throwing something in there.

How much salt residue do you get on that top 1" of exposed glass?

Dan
