Red Sea Reefer 170 Build

Woohoo! After months of waiting, my new tank is FINALLY here. Just picked up this bad boy from Neptune. I originally wanted the black but the white was all they got in, and it's actually really growing on me.

So far I've got a VorTech MP-10w, Eheim return pump, Tunze ATO, Reef Octopus Classic 110-SSS, Cobalt Neo-Therm heater, and a Mainland pro-series light.
-150W phoenix 14k
-4x T5 (ATI Blue+ x 2, ATI True Actinic, ATI Lagoon Blue)
-2 x LED moonlights

Filling it up!

Installed an under counter light in the sump area and *tried* to organize the cords...

Nice tank Jordan, it will be full in no time. I take it that is your stuff at YR?

Sweet tank my friend. How does the silent regulated down-flow system work?

Question, what is the glass box sitting above the filter sock for?

Never mind, it looks like the top off?

Anthony - yes luckily john has been letting me keep my stuff there while I've waited for this tank after my move. And yes that's the ATO but to be honest it's too small and not easy to fill from a 5 gallon jug without spilling water everywhere so I probably won't use it. It'll end up either being a shelf for dosing stuff or a bad *** floating fuge :P

Will - it's basically a herbie drain with a twist valve to control water downflow and eliminate gurgling. It's pretty sweet.

Thanks guys! I'm pretty excited, it's like Christmas in May!

Got the aquascape mostly done, might move a rock or two still. I also painted the paneling strip on the fixture to match the stand. Looking pretty slick.

I am trying to decide between the 170 and 250. Do you wish you had gone bigger or is the 170 perfect for you? Final question, is there enough room in the sump to add other items in addition to the protein skimmer? BTW...the tank looks great!

Thanks- I'm very picky about my rock. I got about 10 pounds from 4 different stores, just cherry picking each piece. And it's rock from my old talk so it's all cured.

I like the 170 because it can be lit with just one light source- either one metal halide or one led fixture (which typically come in sizes for 24" increments). I would love a bigger tank if I had the space and money. I would go as big as you can. I'm also in an apartment so it's hard. Sump has plenty of room for other stuff! If you think you're going to use a calcium reactor, I would go with the 250 because I believe it has more cabinet space for say a CO2 tank. Mine wouldn't fit that.

Well Mister Dick, I got an eheim compact + 2000. Matched the recommended flow rate perfectly per Red Sea. It's silent as can be, I'm very happy with it.
