and jus to give an idea of the number of rastas and red hornets, the following is a close up of them both closed up, respectively... mind you, those rastas started as 5 in May, and now i count over 70... so much for being a slow grower

i have been trying to get a rasta zoa for i dont know how long but i refuse to pay what people are asking for it over here. call me cheap but i think i would shoot myself if i pay $50 for a head and it die on me a couple of days later. maybe a years back when the times werent as rough. much luck to you with your colonies, they are beautiful!

Do you have trouble getting the zoas to spread from the frag plug to the tiles? I like using the tiles, but find my zoas spread much quikers on flat live rock or even clam shells.

no troubles at all... they actually grow very fast once they settle in and get used to my system, light and flow etc... those rastas started as 5 in May, there is now about 100... and those red hornets started as 2 in June, there is now over 50...

this doesnt mean they all grow like that, but the ones ive had for a bit really start to multiply the more they grow... the outer grow edge all around gets bigger as the colonies enlarge, so there are more growing the larger it gets... its pretty cool... the last 10 to 12 weeks, some of them have really grown in numbers... ill try to get some dated progression shots for everyone who might be interested

Stupid Rastas....stupid Pistol Shrimp decided that my frag needed to be dragged into his burrow and chopped up. I can't wait to get rid of him.

also, i got all new bulbs in yesterday... they are all ATI... 8 bulb fixture configured as follows...

blue plus
aquablue special
purple plus
blue plus
blue plus
purple plus
aquablue special
blue plus

i have changed my lighting times... the middle 4 consisting of 2 blue plus and 2 purple plus are on from noon to 10, and the outer bulbs which include the 2 aquablue specials, are on from 2 to 8...

I have my light about 10" above the surface... and will be adding a fan in the near future to keep the bulbs cool...

here is my first top down shot ive taken... clearly not a good pic, but shows a little more of how my purple hornets are establishing themselves... im very pleased, as there are now over a dozen... they are looking very defined, and the skirt tips are starting to sharpin up like my red hornets have done... these are two of my favorites, not becuz they are so popular, and their "value", but becuase they are so bold colored and sharp and cleanly lined... and the jus look real good imo...

these purples are really growing on me...

clearly i need to get that coral viewing box, which will be in next week... the darn reflection, lol... like i said, not a good pic, but shows the zoa somewhat decent, from a new angle im not used to seeing...
