Update MP40w (non ES) to Quietdrive?

I have a pair of MP40w that I never upgraded to the ES drivers that have been happily humming away for over 5 years now. Can these be upgraded to the new Quietdrive drivers?

Based on what I've seen on the upgrade instructions my guess would be I'm missing the wireless module that is in the ES driver, so would I just need to buy one of those for each Quietdrive driver?

Thanks!

Lee-

Yes. You will need to purchase the RF module too though.

and what about the power supply? Old units are 24v while new are 32v

The QD driver will work on 24v and will run your old dry side and wet side at the same flow as they currently produce. Only a driver/RF module will need to be purchased.

Instead of starting a new thread, (sorry to hijack your thread). I have a pair of 40wes models. What upgrade kit should I buy to achieve more silence (although mine don't bother me). Then what kit to increase the flow?
Thank you

Corey

Subscribing to the thread because I have an MP40WES that I plan on upgrading. In addition to buying a second MP40WES QD for the other side.

Corey,

You will need to purchase the MP40wES to MP40wQD upgrade kit. Part number MP052 for a price of $75 per upgrade.

The question I have is will the upgrade for MP40WES provide more flow? If seen the answer saying "on some". Can we specify? How do we know? Does the wetside have different components inside?

Purchasing a MP40wQD upgrade kit will not increase the flow of your pump only reduce noise by up to 90%. You will need to purchase a whole new MP40wQD to receive the increased flow.

Corey,

That is correct, the controller utilizes new technology in both hardware and software to allow motor noise reductions by up to 90%.

Unsure which upgrade I would need too? I have almost the same situation
Is it just the $75 ? I don't need the power increase but would like to try the gyre mode with new drivers.

Hi, I am running two mp40 (non ES) and not worried avoid more flow or noise. I am going to buy two radions x30w g3 pro and thereeflink. Do I need to upgrade in orther to control the pumps with ecosmart? In case I need, would be enough to upgrade only the RF module?. Thanks

I did the upgrade from the Wes to the QD driver. It does drop the noise. But to be honest - I bought 2 new mp40QD and will likely sell my old mp40s with the upgraded driver and just buy 2 new ones. The extra flow is so worth it.

how much flow are we talking about? I just upgraded my mp40wes to qd and now the loudest thing in my tank is my skimmer pump. hahaha.

I will say the dry side isn't running hot as it used to.

Can anyone please confirm if 90% noise reduction is even possible by just controller upgrade or I am being too dreamy?

Shingo,

Like I mentioned in the post you quoted, purchasing a new QD controller will reduce motor noise by up to 90%.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to upgrade without having wireless capabilities. Even though you may not use it, you'll have to get the $120 upgrade.
