My New Nem
Hello folks!
I bought agreen BTA and it arrived in the post in a beautifully packed box- the packaging was perfect. I acclimated him over the course of 2 hours- drip method. I popped him into some iodine solution to clean him- then put him in my tank. He was fine- he was enjoying himself swimming around etc- then I came down this morning and he looks like this. Is he not well? |

Why did you soak him in iodine solution?

It's not abnormal to give an iodine bath 15 minutes to prevent bacterial transfer or bacterial infections.
Looks bad but the pic is way, way to blue..... What does "enjoying himself swimming around mean" Should be planted and stuck. |

Try to provide optimal care for your anemone and help him recover. Also you can look at the thread on how to treat anemones with Cipro on this forum. You should follow this and start him on treatment. All I can point out is what I think you did wrong with this anemone.
Iodine is a nonspecific oxidizer, and it cause damage to living tissue. At dose strong enough to kill bacterial and virus, it also damage living tissue. It is stressful and cause damage to the anemone and should not be use as per OP, IMO. You should not drip him for 2 hrs. All you need is to get the salinity to match slowly, and get the temperature to match. Dripping over 15 mins is more than enough. "He was fine- he was enjoying himself swimming around etc" This is not fine. When we put anemone into a tank, when dripping, I put something, rock or a tile, in the container so that the anemone attach to it. When transfer to the QT or DT the anemone best attached to this heavy structure so that he does not flow around. If he have not attach, I would turn off circulation until he attach then turn it back on. If he still does not attach I would put a basket over him to trap him so he wont flow around and end up in the PH or overflow. I hope he recover for you but try not to stress him anymore, certainly no iodine treatment.

I don’t think most anemone enjoys swimming around... that just meant he was extremely irritated...
