Felix has been excellent. I haven't seen the tank yet, but so far I'd recommend Reef Savvy. I'm actually quoting the sump now, too.

Felix has been a pleasure to deal with, his tanks are worth every penny IMO.

Nice. Now all you need is the glass!
Did you just use hardwood 1x4's for the supports? 5x on front and back plus the sides? We debated a long time about how much we needed and ended up erring on the side of caution. There is *alot* of wood in my stand. |

Thanks Michael. The stand is built completely out of 3/4" Oak. A cabinet maker designed it, I just had to assemble. It is very solid.

Next I have to crawl through this to put support jacks under the floor joists. Fun stuff

I'll be doing something similar soon. I'm going to be running some plumbing under the house. I think the supports that currently exist under the house are sufficient. I've looked at them already, but I'm going to get a second opinion.
Have fun crawling under the house... |

Yep thats where I gotta go to run the plumbing as well, its gonna be really tight under there.
I'm sure the joists are sufficient in terms of load but I worry more about bouncing when walking near the tank, the floor sagging and drywall cracking etc.. I plan on using these: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1...atalogId=10053 only $29 each, should be well worth the piece of mind.

I was thinking about something just like that but haven't looked into it. Thanks for the info. Do you use a wrench to adjust the height? I was going to get some concrete blocks to put under them. What was your plan? I'm hoping I can avoid this, but I might do it anyway. Going to get someone to take a look under the house for another opinion, then make a decision.
I need to schedule my electrician to do the wiring upgrade. I'm going to get him to run (2) dedicated 20A breakers with GFI's. Do you have a backup power plan? Generator? |

That stand looks really good James. Cant wait to see a tank sitting on it. Crawling under the house doesn't look like fun though.

Yep they just get turned with a wrench to adjust, they have them in all different sizes. I am planning on tightening them right up to the floor joists, 2x4's could be placed in between as well. I will most likely only be using an APC battery backup to operate the heater and voretechs in case of power failure. I may look into a generator in the future as well. We don't lose power too often here though luckily. Are you going to be running a genny? I actually just spoke to my electrician the other day too, I plan on adding aditional circuits in the fish room since there is only one outlet in there at the moment.

We seem to lose power often enough to cause issues. The real problem is once 2 or 3 years, we might be out for 24 - 48hrs. I'd like to get a big one to support the key parts of the house, too. We'll see, that'd be quite an investment.
I thought about strapping the floor supports together with a 2x6. I've been told that can add alot more strength than one would think. Keeps things from twisting. Also makes a better spot to put the jack under. Easy enough. Something to consider since you'll be under the house anyway. |

The stand and canopy both look great! As for crawling under the house, all I can think is: "ahh, the things we do for our tanks . . . ."
And I say that as someone who drilled three holes through the dining room wall and wired up 24 outlets over the weekend! It's a pain, but it will all be worth it when the tank is running. |
