My pair of leafy seadragon lay eggs

My nearly 2 years old leafy seadragon lay eggs today. The entire process is witness and write down in my log book! My male(presumely) leafy is not yet ready and all eggs go to the bottom of the tank. The colour of the eggs is golden yellow and the size is similar to salmons egg. I hope that some days I may success in breeding them. Congrats.

IIRC if you can raise the fry, you'd be one of the first. Getting the males to accept the eggs is one of the challenges.

I can't see the eggs in the video, can you post a still?

Hi Coralfriend,
Simply stunning! Congrats!
I was wondering what their tank depth is.
I was just thinking that their egg transfer to the male is so much more complex than the seahorse that possibly they need more depth to be able to successfully breed.

Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful dragons with us. I am so impressed with your success thus far.

This batch leafy's egg can not successful hatch out into fry. The other dragon's tail is not yet softening which is a sign of accepting the egg. Even I can provide the condition of deep tank, this breeding is a fail one ! I am already prepare to transfer them to a deep tank for them if there are any sign of breeding again. I do not take action at this time is that I know that it is not the right time to take any action. Those pair of seadragon is from the same batch which I imported them legally from Australia with all necessary licence 2 years ago. It means that there are timing for them to reach maturity with female go first. It is only a assumption from the experience of my own. Although they are the same age, female dragon can produce egg earlier while the male is not mature enough at his own age. The colour of the dragon change all the time. They look barren because the photo is shot with T5 only and the depth of tank is quite deep for the light to penetrate through it. My dragon's juvenile stage is keep in a shallow tank with halide. The colour is more bright. Do you think that they will breed without a proper nutrition? I enclose some photos of introductory stage and juvenile stage below. The very first photo is the 1 day which I accept them from Australia.

Wow, CoralFriend it would be great to see some more tank shots of the tank that you are keeping them in. How much have they grown since you got them?

Hi Coralfriend - thank you for sharing your leafy seadragons with us. Your web site is also very informative and interesting. Can you describe the system you are using to maintain these dragons?

wow!

...beautiful! Nature never fails to produce one creature even more incredible than the next.
They are so neat! Someday when I retire, maybe MAYBE I'll do leafys. Lucky for me, I'll have
30+ years of saltwater experience at that point, so by then I just might be ready.

Holy crap this is cool! Are they themselves captive bred? I know some can be harvested from the wild if you've got the correct licensing. Look how much they've grown in your pictures!
