PraziPro Dosing
When treating flukes with Prazi, the instructions are pretty clear - dose, wait 7 days, do a WC, and dose again - done. But, if I won't be home on day 7, can I administer the second dose on day 8 without risking any new eggs? Should I add on a third dose?
Thanks! |

A day longer, you should be fine.

use this calendar; put in your salinity and temp into it and it will tell you the best time for your second dose as well as how long it takes the flukes to reach maturity and reproduce.

I thought there had to be a 3-5 day wait in between doses? So after 6 days of your first dose, you do a large water change wait 3-5 days and redose? Or do you do your first dose then 6 days after that you do a wc then dose again straight after without a break in between?

I always do another dose at the 5 day mark. I do not do a water change with mine. No issues of doing it that way for years.

I've never heard of a wait period before doing another dose. WC, and then redose is what I've read all over the net.
And to Scooter, thanks! I'll do a WC anyway since I need a pretty consistent schedule (nano tank), but the 5 day seems to work well. I've asked some friends on another forum, and the general consensus was that 3-4 days is enough for a dose of Prazi to do it's work, and that it's alright to dose at any point after that. Thanks! |

My bottle says nothing about a wait period.
"A single treatment lasting 5-7 days is normally sufficient. Retreat as necessary, but no more than once every 3 days." That's about all it says about dosage. Granted, I'm using the 4 OZ bottle. |

Prazipro doesnt effect the eggs so the first treatment kills all the adults while the second treatment 5-7 days latter is to ensure to kill any of new flukes that have hatched. sometimes a third treatment is required as well. water change in between is not a must but nice to do before dosing the second round.
There has been cases of prazi resistant flukes in which case 5 days in hypo or formalin will be needed (unfortunately I have personally dealt with them myself).

Is the first dose classed as your first day or do your dose and wait 24hrs and that is your first day?

the first day you dose counts as your first day. second dose should be 5-7 days after that.
