DD is still a great place to go because you get a picture can see what it has or doesn't have, plus the size. Most times the fish will look much better in person than what they post. Look at my post #2642 as an example

Isn’t hole in the head and HLLE the same thing?

Na, I don't think so. I think there are a lot of smarter people who manage money better, or work harder, or taught better than many of us. To me I would wager 100 or 500 dollars isn't that big of a deal to them. In any case I am probably off topic. Sorry.

The price for that pretty fish is pretty fair, especially when you consider its size.
I think the wc baby they had a month ago was sold immed for $5500. It was around 2 inches, maybe 1.75?
But, as Derek mentioned, when you can get an almost bulletproof, tiny cb baby for a lot less money, why wouldn't you?
Btw, what is more interesting is that once the CB became avail, the us is now getting some of these "smalls" almost frequently. Hmmmm...

Hole in the head is a common freshwater discus (and some other cichlids) disease that causes similar symptoms, but it doesn't cause fin erosion and rarely cause erosion around the lateral line. It is known to be caused by a pathogen in discus (I forgot the name) but also correlates with poor nutrition.

HLLE is head and lateral line erosion disease seen in a number of different marine fish. It causes somewhat similar symptoms, but the underlying cause is cryptic.

Oh, I have no problem with how much anyone makes. Just seems odd for people to pay extra for a wild caught fish when guaranteed healthy and problem free CB ones are available cheaper.

I agree. And assuming the person who bought it has alot of money is a fallacy. Insert $30,000 millionaire.

I agree that the more serious fish collectors have better contacts. In fact, some of those guys as well as groups of similar said guys sometimes have wholesaler access because they pool together and spend big money on these types of exotic fish and the wholesaler is willing to look the other way since they're spending significant amounts of money on livestock collectively. But we may be talking $10,000-$15,000 or beyond in a group buy from these individuals.

When some fish cost 4-5K each, you hit 15K really quick. Most of the fish that those guys want come from sources other than wholesalers. Divers and Breeders are the go to. You also avoid the diseased holding tanks of most wholesalers

Just strictly salt water, HLLE or Hole in the head is strictly environmental condition. Fish in good condition should not have them. That is my understanding. My only experiences with this problem was in 1980’s in fish only aquarium.

This^

I have many contacts for high end Fish not from wholesalers. Divers/collectors etc. makes it much nicer to obtain such high end or rarer fish for me or my buddies.

Its all about the brand name and supply and demand. The fish, like anything in this world, is only worth as much as someones willing to pay for it.

If that Sunburst never sells, next time they'll post it for 149.99, until they find equilibrium.

Cool that they are breeding them but I’m not excited until they aren’t triple the price of a WC one.

I *really* want one! And I prefer cb if possible, but I don’t have enough room, and hubs would faint if I proposed another tank...
