just FYI, I have used the SEMI leds like you guys are using and always keep spares around because they tend to just burn up. Looks very good btw

Wow nice build. You are probably going to have to dim those waaaay down though. I did 48 3 watt cree led on my 90 and can't run over about 30% without bleaching/ irritating most of my corals( they were used to 260 watts cfl). Awesome set up, just be careful.

Jae, I would put some of the blue LEDs to. I would do like 3 blues to every white.

It's really looking good.

I just came back from Jae's house. Wow. So bright and the perfect color. Just a hint of blue not the normal white ,white. We may not need any actinic supplementation.I just cleaned my heat sinks and will be gluing them this weekend. I will be running ether 88 or 166 leds on my tank.

wow that looks great! Really interested in seeing how it will look over the tank and what kind of colors you will get out of them.
Do they have a ballast that powerful that is dimmable? Or are they ridiculously priced?

Nice work- I just bought the 57g (36" long) from Chris and I'm thinking of doing something like this for the tank... Whats a good place to buy the parts, this would be my first project...

So, how many hours to solder that so far?

it looks amazing. It is still bright even at the distance to the ceiling. I would like to see one at the distance it will be hung to the corals to check for spotlighting.

soldering .. almost done~~~~ waiting for PAR meter..
soldering was easy part... hard part was cutting and strip wire.

A friend of mine just did 2 LED units and he said the same thing as you. When are you getting a PAR meter?

Pick up one of these. One of my favorite gadgets when dealing with wire.

is that led panel you are working on big enough to cover the entire tank,or is that just for one half of the tank?either way it is looking good.can i ask why you chose the 40 degree optics?when i was researching my led setup, the manufacturer of my LED kit did optics tests and got the highest PAR from the 70 degree optics.so i went with 70 degree optics since i do plan on having some SPS in my tank.oh and maybe i missed it in the thread but are you going to fan cool the aluminum beams you mounted your LED's too?

I left Jae's house about 5:30 pm , and he has just a little more to do . He should be hanging the fixtures Tomorrow . He has been doing a fantastic job . The fixtures look great , very bright , and very little heat . The channel just feels a little warm to the touch , and that is with no fan .

I finished gluing my leds tonight and will begin wiring and soldering 2 separate displays with 88- 3 watt leds tomorrow. All of our leds have 60 degree optics not 40 degree.
