Its kinda just like LR, I think the main thing is you don't want the pores to become plugged, because it decreases the surface area available for the bacteria. I haven't used it at all, just been following the matrix/siporax thread here in the SPS forum, you may want to run your thoughts by some of the reefers who have used it.

Stunning setup. Love the way you use the woody Colours and canvas roll for cables! Something I'll aspire to have if I get a tank size like yours hehe..

Anyway just a quick question - how do you like the jns or aquamaxx skimmer?

Down the road, Jordan, when you take this same shot with a tank full of colorful, growing and branching acros, it'll be a fantastic before and after!

Thanks I like the skimmer, I settled on the CO2 for my 120, and it was great. The CO1 is great also, they are no-fuss skimmers and perform, have a small footprint, and a great price point. They are not silent, but pretty darn quiet to boot.

I do need to do an update, thanks for the comments! This tank has been through a lot of ups and downs the past 4 to 6 months, adding another family member to the brood really took away from tank time (and everything else lol). I had my RO unit go on me (which I didn't catch right away), nutrients spikes and crashes, resultant algae outbreaks, and green water lol. All things are pretty stable now, but I lost a lot of frags, and the ones that survived are taking a long time to come around. Things are stable now though thankfully, I just haven't seen any coral growth up until the last couple of weeks, so I'm essentially still at ground zero (about where I was a year ago really, but much wiser into the workings of my system). Going from a larger 120 to a much smaller 45 gallon tank really leaves a much narrower margin of error, which I found out about through the roller coaster of the past few months. At one point I actually thought of shutting it down, but with a touch more sleep, that crazy notion passed.

That said, I do have a bit more time now to devote to the tank, and I seem to be figuring it out. I will try and get and post some photos in the next week or so. Hoping to add some replacement frags soon now that things seem to be under control and my parameters stable.

I use the BRS dosers, they seem to do the job. At the moment though I'm dosing very little Alk and Ca, given that I don't really have any growing SPS That will change though in the coming months.

Sorry about all the issues with the tank. Congrats on the new addition to the family. We all look forward to the frag shots and hopefully some tank progression shots later.

Thanks Sahin... progression shots will have to wait in terms of corals, but there are some things I can update.

Hey guys, thanks for your interest, the tank is indeed still up and running, but has been through a lot of ups and downs (mostly downs) due to my inability to devote much time to it. To say things have been a bit crazy is an understatement.

One key change is that I recently swapped out the lighting, as the 250 MH unit with LEDs was not pumping out enough light. It took me a ton of time to do the lighting pendant, so this was a difficult choice, and should have done it long ago. I now have the 4 x 24 ATI sunpower over the tank, which seems to have made a positive difference in the short time I've had it. I only have about 12 or so SPS frags in there, that have been struggling, but have managed to hang on.

At present I'm having issues with my first gen, "old" XF-130 gyre, so looking to get that rectified, and get things back on track. Given we're heading into winter in SW Ontario now(snow forecasted overnight and into tomorrow already), I will have more time to spend on this tank. I'll def post some updated pics soon, but not a whole ton to see! That said, I am happy to say the tank is still up and running, as I've been on the verge of shutting it down a number of times.

Hey Jordan, glad to hear your tank is still going! Hopefully you’ll be able to give it more attention in the near future.
Enjoy the snow.. /:
We don’t have any snow in our forecast yet but the cold whether is creeping in...
