Very interesting. I have one that lost almost all tissue due to low nutrients. Once I started feeding more it began to regrow about half the heads.

I had the same problem recently. A torch stung the heck out of it causing all its heads to bail. Stem still had some nice green flesh though. Moved it out of the way, and low and behold almost a year later it has nearly every head back.
I never thought the polyps would regrow from a bare stalk either.
