Which set up is better for QT?

Currently have a 20G QT with a Whisper 10-30 filter on the back and an air stone. Was going to get a second whisper and stop the air stone. Would this be too much flow? Is it better to keep the air stone? Or is there a better HOB filter to get for a 20G QT?

My personal opinion is to use what you have currently, take the airstone off and use straight air line, and get a small powerhead.
The stone could soak up medications and leach them back out.

I keep an air stone in mine just for piece of mind. Some meds deplete oxygen.

As long as the HoB filter is moving the surface water, the air stone is unnecessary. It's an old wives tale that stones somehow diffuse O2 into the water - they don't! They simply act as an inefficient way to help circulate water up to the surface, while giving you lots of salt creep for your trouble. HoB is doing the same thing. I run a HoB on my QT tank, but I also use a powerhead. Not for oxygenation per se, but to provide water movement for the fish; many of which will show a better feeding response if their food is 'moving'.

I have a Marineland MJ 1200 pro power head that I was just going to use for water changes in the QT. Are you suggesting that I use that 24/7 as a circulation pump to move water from the other side of the tank and remove the air stone? Or is the MJ 1200 too strong for a 20g to use as a circulation pump?

Keep the airstone around though. You'll want to use it if you ever do a freshwater dip. Likewise, some other medication dips deplete oxygen, so having an airstone is useful there too.

I dont like powerheads in my qt. Hurt or sick fish tent to get stuck to the intakes. I had a yellow belly blue tang come in dead. I acclimated him anyways. He started breathing. 2 days later he was swimming and still is.

I doubt he would have done well with any kind of pump, he layed on his side for two days twitching by the airstone.
