Dosing container lids

Question, Today I bought (3) half gallon glass jars. I plan to use them for my dosing containers. Does it matter if the lids aren't plastic?

Maybe..
Are they made of Jello? Rubber? paper? The souls of lost children? uncoated steel?

Mason brand lids meant for canning are steel and will rust quickly in a saltwater environment. The inside surface is coated and somewhat durable but the outside is pretty weak.

That said there's an entire aftermarket for Mason-style jars, and lots of places online where you can get all-plastic replacement lids that would work just fine.

So likely plated steel and not the souls of lost children..

As stated with fairly "intimate" saltwater exposure they will corrode (rust) quite quickly but you aren't putting them in the water and as such I'd expect quite a long life from them..
Just use them and if you see extensive rust.. Get a new lid.. plain and simple..

Not an issue IMO.. I wouldn't worry about replacing them at this time..

I've had them near, but not in, saltwater - in environments where other cheap coated/plated steel was fine - and they corroded within a few months. Yes, they may be fine, but I wouldn't count on it.

I plan to use half gallon jars as well. They do make plastic screw lids for mason jars, which I also plan on using.

I used plastic cereal containers from wallyworld. Nice lids, corrosion free, and unbreakable.
