Xenia sucked into powerhead, do I need to fear an outbreak

I stupidly put my pulsing xenia too close to my powerhead intake, came home from work and saw the whole thing (tips of stalks and claws) sucked into it. Pulled it out and it lost about 80% of the heads/hands.
I saw at least 3 hands at various places throughout the tank.

Is it possible for a new colony to grow from a hand?

Don't get to excited about it. Any that happen to pop up can easily be removed ( though it makes your fingers stink really bad).

Man, I'm gonna either have to kill the live rock or pick at it for weeks.

Please God bring your wraith into my 29 gallon and smote thy evil xenia which taketh up refuge there!

No worries duder. Any that do sprout, just grab a pair of tweezers and pull. They come right off the rock (usually in complete sections).

I remove new colonies from my rocks all the time.

I had xenia grow onto a rock where i didn't want it to grow. I removed the rock, pulled off the xenis by hand, ran it under hot water and scrubbed the rock with a wire brush. About 2 or 3 weeks later I notice the xenia beginning to grow again. It can be a real pain.
