from what ive seen its best to wait until the ric has 2 mouths and you can either cut or use a rubberband around the 2 mouths.

I frag mine all the time. it is easier if it has two mouths... but in my experience a frag doesn't even need one mouth to survive. I just slice and put them on top of some pebbles under my ricordea holder.
Take a 1inch pvc pipe and cut a ring... maybe 1 inch tall. Glue some screen to the top of it. Place a ric frag over some small rocks or shells. Press the pvc ring over the top and firmly against the frag. 24-48 hours remove and glue the rocks it attached to on a disc or plug. I usually go through and frag my rics every 1-2 months and just chop em all up. My lfs give me $10 per frag - helps fund my addiction haha. I never feed them directly, but I have seen them grab some mysis as it floats by.

That seems more in line with my experience, no offense. I got a ric. as a birthday present, and when I tried to cut it off the plug, it left behind a piece. I left the plug, with the small piece on it in my frag rack , and now, it's a ric. the size of the original ric. It had no mouth, and grew one, over the course of a week. I didn't figure that was a normal frag time(two days after introduction to my tank), so, thanks. I want to populate my tank, with more rics., so, this helps a lot.
