That is alot of electricity... seeing as your pump runs 24/7, that would account for a substantial rise in your power bill... way more than lights that are typically run for 12-14 hrs.

There's alot of emphasis placed on savings from electronic MH ballasts, maybe we should be looking for more efficient pumps.

I could be wrong about the energy usage, but I got the figure off of Iwaki's website as I don't have the pump yet.
Maybe I should be looking for a different pump. I'm going to be pushing the limits anyway on a 20 amp circuit with three mh, vho actinics, etc.
The GenX/mak4 looks like a good alternative. Any experience with that one?

amps*volts*(power factor)=watts
when Power factor is not know I generaly use a number of about 0.8 for a pump.

I should know this, but I don't recall--and I can't find it anywhere quickly. I have a pump that pulls 1.9 amps. How many watts is that?

This goes back about 15 years to my days at Devry.

Power = current x volts.
P=I x E

228=1.9a x 120v

228 watts

I am sure this more than you wanted to know.

Actually I was looking for the formula too, so thanks. I'm suprised that Iwaki pump uses that much but I guess it makes sense.
