Yes sir

Here is the final sump tray. Epoxy finish on the outside and white plexiglass on the inside. Seems sealed with Momentiv rtv108.

Awesome build.

I spy a oldschool vdub in the background. Yours? Looks pretty clean! Makes me miss my mk1

Thanks! I am a car guy first and foremost. I built that for my wife b/c she is a huge VW nut (I prefer BMW, Volvo, Nissan or Toyota myself) but I couldn't afford a 50's bus It's an 85 cabriolet but I put rabbit trim and liftgate on it. Still needs a little more work before she can really drive it around. I stripped it down, painted it myself. PPG Mellow Yellow. I also shaved the side markers, fender trim and rocker trim. Installed coilovers, new steering rack, tie rods, brakes, re-built 84 GTI 1.8L motor, new clutch, all new OEM rubber, new trim, new windshield and some other stuff. Needs a new top, new carpet, fuel accumlator and a stereo.

Nice restoration on the VW. I completely restored my 1972 Karman Ghia a few years ago. I would post a photo but whenever I try to post I get an error message. And btw, the tank build is coming along nicely too.

I am just waiting on the cabinet builder to skin the stand then the real fun will begin. Here is an empty FTS with the sump tray in place.

Can't wait to see the cabinets! I am actually re-joining the large tank club myself!!! I wish I was doing mine as a corner tank at least, but it will be only an in wall 60 x 36 x 24 - 225 Gallons. My basement layout unfortunately limits placement...

Excited to see this come together!!!

Don

I had originally thought it would help with the structural integrity but also, that section is to house and access plumbing and electrical.

Originally? Do you have new plans for it? With the right face (maybe inset with a door to cover the controllers, etc.) it will look great. My old 180 had a shape like that and it was fantastic, it's nice not always needing to bend down or over. The key seems to be in how well you tie it visually into the rest of the tank's motif.

Brandon, you may have already covered this so I apologize if you did. Where is your electrical connection? Is is on it's own circuit? GFCI I'm sure.

Catherine, there will be doors covering that space. The cabinetry will be floor to ceiling. I had the stand designed so that all the doors will be 18" wide. The electrical connection is under the house now but will be run through the floor into the stand by the column. Dedicated 20 or 30 amp circuit with GFCI.

Brandon, if I may make a suggestion, run 2-4 different circuits if possible. Not that one couldn't handle the entire tank, but this way if something was to trip one circuit, the whole tank won't go down, just whatever was on that one circuit. And don't use arc fault breakers! Total PITA!

Keep up the awesome work, brotha!

What Dennis said. I have 4 20A GFCI protected dedicated circuits.
I only use half of it, but I got it!!

So I recently took apart my island 150 gal as I will be leaving the hobby for a bit. I remember the most difficult thing were water changes. Moving that much water around that often and getting the living room wet were not the most fun things to do. My wife wasn't thrilled on water change days. Therefore, I set up commercial grade feeder pumps to run a continuous water change system through ro/di lines with my apex. I think those pumps were the best investment I made in making my reefer life easier.

I am not sure what can be done with the electrical since it's already done for the most part but I will ask.

I plan on running a pump and plumbing from the garage to the sump to help with water changes.

For a tank Brandon's size I think this is an excellent idea!

I think it's a great idea and will ask the electrician about it when he comes back to run the wiring and box through the floor and into the cabinet.

I did that and it's so worth it for the peace of mind. I did three circuits; each one has a heater and a circulation pump of some kind and a set of lights.

I recommend you plan out your redundancy plans at the same time, e.g. generator, etc. as it gets costly to change wiring if you're past the finishing stage. New paint never matches the old stuff. -.-

House is already wired for generator And I keep it in the crawl space right near the hookup so I don't have to drag it all the way from the garage.
