Your coral feeding process...
Hello Everyone...I would love to hear what your process is for
spot feeding your corals... 1. How often do you feed them? 2. Time of day/night you feed them? 3. What you feed them? 4. Pumps on off? and if off for how long? 5. Skimmer on/off and if off for how long? Also if you could post a picture of your tank with your reply this would be super..much appreciated.. I have my theories on all of the above but want to know what fellow reefers are doing and success they are having with different methods...i AM sure alot of people can learn from this post if enough people respond..Cheers, and thanks.. Thx Tim

I have approx. 200 corals in my 180g system. They get 5/8 tsp of coral frenzy and 15ml of both Red Sea Energy A&B daily. I feed 2 hours before the lights come on. I leave my whole system running.
They also get any floating mysis that my fish dont eat. Fish are fed 1/2 cube every other day in the middle of the light cycle. Cheers! Mark

broadcast feeding not spot feeding
Dadio....So you are broadcast feeding the 5/8 teaspoon of cFrenzy and not spot feeding the corALS of course yes? When you leave the system running
are you not afaid that the overflows will suck up a good portion of that 5/8 teaspoon and that the skimmer will too? and then drive up nitrates? Your thoughts. Thanks VERY MUCH. Tim

I try not to worry about anything, It is a hobby and that means it should be fun and if you have to worry about it, that kinda sucks the fun out! If I turn off the pumps, I am likely to forget to turn them back on. I dont see how the nitrates would "drive up" with the skimmer going? When I feed, it makes a cloud and it takes a while to clear. I dont think a lot gets into the sump/skimmer. But what does get down there feeds the pods in my chaeto. I am sure that you will find that we all feed different for different reasons. I dose a lot of vinegar which wipes out my nitrates and I keep my alk at 10. This means I need to add a lot of nutrients to keep my SPS happy.
I like to add a lot of nutrients and aminos while keeping nitrates and phosphates very low. Cheers! Mark

Reef Roids occasionally at night after the main lights go off (2100). Not more than once a week.

Mostly my Corals eat fish poo, but once a week I spot feed a mix of calanus, oyster feast and a fine dry powder like Reef roids. I turn my mp10s Dow but don’t turn off my return pumps.

I believe BRS quotes a study that indicated that additional feedings did not result in much additional growth, but some.....it's not like the more you feed the fast and bigger they grow...but infrequent feedings are considered by many in the hobby as beneficial. I dose the Red Sea Reef Energy A and B every day.
I feed Coral Frenzy twice a week. I leave all pumps and equipment running. Just pour it in and walk away. |

I target feed reef chili once every month and mysis shrimp every 2 months. Usually feed at night when the blues are on. I do cut the pumps and skimmer off for about 30mins.

1. Whenever I feed my fish I give my LPS some of the brine/mysis shrimp mixes
2. Whenever my fish look hungry 3.mostly meaty food sometimes a liquid additive I think it is called Reef Fuel or something 4.turn pumps off for an hour sometimes less when I feed with shrimp. when I use Fuel I just pour in the recommended amount 5. I do not have a skimmer I will take a pic when I get home nothing really amazing it has not been going long and all my corals started as frags the size of nickles or smaller

I turn my light on at 7am, then off at 9pm. Light, all thats really needed.
On a more serious note, I do feed twice a week a mix of LRS, PE mysis, and reef chili. I target feed my LPS, then broadcast the rest.

Reef Roids target fed to chalices only, maybe once a week - only if the PO4 NO3 is too clean, when moon lights on, turn MP10 off 45min.

I broadcast feed the fish Reef Frenzy and Rods Food daily.
Fish broadcast feed the coral their own feces. Once a week or so I might throw in some Reef Chili or similar.

I’ll occasionally feed my LPS some mysis. I also feed the tank about .5 gallon a week of live phytoplankton. When I have a little more time on my hands I’m planning to start a rotifer culture to dose the tank with.
