My 80g is on a 3/4" ply stand.. and its solid as a rock.. see here before I put doors/slide out side cabinets in it.. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=2673499 Its really only 3/4" ply on the left and right sides with 1x material holding those vertical basically.. All the weight is just on those 2 plywood pieces and its plenty strong as is.. Those premade stands while not the best and typically build from MDF and not plywood are still enough to hold the tank up.. Their joinery methods are typically not the best though using those cam lock connections,etc... to make assembly easy.. Proper joints and 3/4" ply is all anyone needs for 95% of the tanks on this site.. Including many in the multiple-hundred gallon sizes.. A 40g is a walk in the park for a plywood box..
