Fritz turbostart 900 and adding fish.... question!

Hello,

I'm restarting a sw fish tank after many months.

I have dry rock, pumps running in sw in a 200g.

Adding 8 ml of turbo 900 soon.
And a dead shrimp.

Will test ANN daily.
When ammonia gets to zero can i add some hardy damsels? Or should nitrite be zero too?

Thx...

No need for a dead shrimp if you are using turbostart per the instructions. I have added fish and coral day one after using turbostart.

Great thx.

Did your A,N spike after in the following week? When did ANN return to normal? Ie only a tiny nitrate level and AN was zero?

Imo demsel is too hardy to put as benchmark that ur water is safe for LS. Just test until ammonia is 0. And No3 jas some value, its safe to load LS

Most wait till ammonia and nitrite is zero before considering the tank "Cycled" and at that point they start water changes to drop the nitrate level down to acceptable levels and often start adding the "clean up crew" (snails,etc...) .
You can certainly add fish at that point if you want too..

Fritz turbostart will give you both bacteria that neutralize ammonia and nitrites.
In saltwater nitrites are not harmful to fish. I have always let tank cycle with fritz and let ammonia hit 0 then add fish.

I used Fritz Turbo 900 on my Qt/Holding Tanks when I couldn't get ammonia to 0. It worked like a charm. Not that it is recommended but I believe you could set up a tank one day and add fish the next with Turbo 900. Just check ammonia levels daily.

Update :

I added turbo start 900 Wednesday.
Added 6 small damsels Thursday night.

Tested today. Ammonia seems like 2-4 ppm.

Fish doing great. But i have sea chem prime handy.

Can i dose the recommended dosage into my 200g sw volume now with fish in the DT?

Will that neutralize that ammonia?

I hope in few days ammonia goes to zero.

Pls advice thx
Kris

You want beneficial bacteria to get hold and colonize to neutralize ammonia.
Prime is like a band aid. You will have to keep dosing daily till either ammonia source goes away or bacterial filter develops.
Remember bacteria only lives in same proportion as ammonia being produced. So if you lower the ammonia levels, thus bacteria all die off.

Well, the faq says ammonia nitrite might rise to below stress levels so 4ppm i hope is less.

Hoping to see nitrite rise in a few days.

Btw, is doing a 20 % wc now advisable or will it remove good bacteria...?
In 3 days i assume bacteria would've
stuck to the rock and walls of tank and sump?

When I used Turbo 900 my ammonia was 0, not sure why you are getting 2 to 4ppm? You didn't add the dead shrimp? I only added a cap full or two at a time to control ammonia. When I moved everything over from my 180 to my 310 I added a couple of cap fulls. Did you check your ammonia before adding Fritz? Also did your bottle of Turbo 900 come refrigerated?
