Skimmer issue help

Hey all, have a question with my eshopps psk 100 hob skimmer. I cleaned it good the other day with distilled vinegar and water and reassembled. Runs fine and foams great again after cleaning, but for some reason why I turn it off to feed fish now, the air intake line is filling with water almost to point it wants to overflow but doesn't.

I never noticed this before now and was wondering why this is happening and how to fix it. I tried calling eshopps but they just told me to turn it off and pinch off air tube line like when primed. But it's still happening. Thoughts on this anyone?

Thanks in advance.

Could the pump being going bad? Was thinking about a check valve, or would that interfere with the air intake? Could really use some help please.

Water seeks its own level, so- it rises in the tube.
