Gold Bubble ID

I started growing these golden metallic bubbly things on one of my powerheads. My 65 gallon tank has been running for 5 years now, no algae to speak of. Water parameters: temp 78.5, spg 1.024, Ca 425, Alk 9.8, pH 8.2, P04 0, NO3 0.2, Mg 1350.

Low bio load - 4 small fish, assorted euphyllia corals, duncan, some palys, colt coral, devils hand.

This just popped up out of nowhere. Does any one know what it is? I hope I am attaching the photo correctly. Thanks in advance.

Looks like bubble algae (valonia) dusted with the beginnings of cyano bacteria or some reddish film algae. Does the red film brush off the "bubbles?"

IME, Valonia can take on many odd shapes, depending upon what it's growing on/around.

Crud! I thought it might have been but the color is so strange. Thankfully that is the only place it is growing. Thanks for the feedback.

You can soak the power head in some white vinegar for a couple of hours to kill.off any spores remaining after you clean the valonia off.
