Fish Dying!!!!
Hello Guys, So I started my tank 8 Month ago, but I just transfer my old rocks to this new one I got, it been running for 8 months as I said. so I started adding fish. they were fine for almost 6 months, since then I started getting diatom and red slime algae, my fish started dying overnight and then I bought more and the same thing was happening today my last Wyoming clownfish die, yesterday he was swimming normal and eating And today when I approached my tank I saw him on the sand bed not moving ,
if you guy got any tip on what I can do, please let me know. If I should a bacteria booster or something. Thank you!!

What are your parameters including chlorine/chloramine and ammonia, nitrites?
Cheers! Mark

Are your fish dying overnight/during lights out? You may be having an oxygen deprivation event. How many fish do you have, and what sort of surface movement/agitation do you have.
And as Daddi0 said, a more full description of your setup and parameters would help! Kevin

Poison/pollution of the tank can kill. Spoiled food can kill. An infected fish can kill. A lot of things can kill, but without more info, both general about the tank, and specific, such as the circumstances leading up to the deaths, we can't really tell you anything.

Chlorine/chloramine from your water supply?

If I read your post correctly, your fish are dying overnight?
I might consider 3, 30% water changes over a week and run some carbon in case it's a poisoning, however the new water must have been 0 TDS before the mix. As mentioned, and good thinking, you must ensure no chlorine or chloramine or ammonia. If they still die I might start to lean in the diease direction. Unfortunately, mystery deaths could be anything, but if you don't know what it is, let's find out what's it's not. |

Hi, is the MP 40 the only means you have for water movement? Do you have a sump with another pump to help circulate the water, it seems really odd that your fish would all die after 6 or so months from no apparent reason, other then some form of disease or poisoning. Do you have Corals, Crabs, Snails or Shrimp in your system, and are they still alive?

Yup, low oxygen water certainly can kill.
Or a ammonia spike, or many other things, Keep us posted now you have created surface agitation The fact you have a skimmer and a sump makes low oxygen not likely the cause. Last edited by Uncle99; 01/26/2019 at 07:50 PM. |
