Modified RocketEngineer Stand
Looking for some tips on modifying the RE stand to allow for a 24" deep sump under a 24" tank. Obviously it doesn't fit as designed so does anyone have some thoughts on how somehow make the stand 6" deeper than the tank so the bottom rail can still run across the back of the tank. That would also give me a 6" ledge in back of the tank as well. I was originally thinking just adding on a 6" frame to the back but that would mean removing or limiting the rear bottom rail so the sump can fit.
Using basically only 2x8's and a sheet of marine plywood for the top. How to stabilize the frame with limited rear bottom rail? Say only enough bottom rail at each end to hold up the support there? |

Full dimensions of tank?
Full dimensions of sump? Any reason you dont just make it a 30" deep stand following the RE plans exactly?

The dimensions of the tank would help give us a better idea of what you will be working on. The community can also learn from this too.

We definitely need more info on how big the tank you are going to be working with is. I used his plans and have a ledge on two sides of my tank but its small and doesn't weigh nearly as much as yours sounds like it might.

Sump I've settled on is 60x18x18 so Now I'm good on that. I'm still stuck on the return bulkhead decision though.
I'm going to build a quick frame the size of the sump, put up a simple stand frame with center brace and bottom rail across and see if I can put the sump frame under the tank with a center brace in place. Biggest problem was choosing the sump and the original sump was too wide, but now that I've found one that'll do triton on this size tank in smaller dimension I've got one less headache to deal with. |
