Cleaning Filter Sock in Dishwasher

I live in an apartment and share laundry. Thus I don't know what goes into it. I was thinking about cleaning my filter socks in the dishwasher. I would not used detergent or rinse agent or the heated dry cycle.

Just run it through take out let dry. I think this would be pretty effective. Maybe I could rinse in a little bleach first, before the dishwasher?

Any thoughts? Has anyone tried this?

I would be concerned about the left over detergent but I have read others using washing machines. Im curious myself.

There's no agitation in a dishwasher so I don't know if it would be any better than rinsing it off with the sprayer on a faucet.

def. use the washer: a little bleach, soak it for a few hours then run it through a few spin cycles let it air dry. If it smells like chlorine (bleach) continue to spin it in just water.

I do not see why it would hurt to try. Presoak with bleach and run it until smell is gone like said above. If it does not get clean you know it does not work. Run the rinse cycle before you wash sock if you are concerned their is something left over you don't want in the sock.

Am the only one who doesn't get the bleaching thing? What is that getting everyone (besides a very white sock) over people who just rinse them out and call it a day? A lot of people soak the socks in bleach and water but don't use the washing machine... is that really more effective than a good rinse and letting them dry for a few days? Some people say hit them with the hose. I don't run filter socks but am going to give them a try but I see them ending up in the trash if I have to bleach them.

I have several socks, so air out the washed one for a week. Even better if you can do it outside in the sun.

Re: dish washer: try it. Reefing isn't fun unless you're constantly experimenting. I suspect you'll need a good soak first. I hose mine off outside and then my washer has a 30 minute soak cycle.

I use an apartment shared laundry myself. Seeing that you are not putting any detergent in to begin with, any detergent left over after just a water/bleach wash is going to be incredibly little to none IMO.

I use filter pads (similar to a sock); when I have enough I hose them off outside and throw into washer, add a little 'plain' bleach, wash hot, rise cold. Let air dry for at least a day (chlorine will evaporate)....good to go!

I just put them in the washing machine with no soap at all. I am concerned about residual detergent. They still get clean.

The dishwasher would sterilize them though whereas a clothes washer would not unless you use bleach.

Why use a washer to wash one filter sock???? I don't think you would want to mix that with your clothes either.. LOL.

Do it the old fashion way, get your hands wet.. takes couple of minutes to wash it by hand.. Its like washing yours hands folks!. Just keep rinsing it till there isn't any brown water anymore. Hang it to air dry. Save on electric, water.....

I wash several times in the sink by hand then wash them in the front loading washing machine in a quick wash mode and high spin then I turn each sock inside out and wash again. I use washing soda on both cycles.

LOL! People wash baby clothes and cloth diapers and vomit in washing machines all the time, that's way nastier than a little fish poo!

I've washed them in a water hose when I only had like 2 of them, but that just cleaned the heavy stuff and got them a bit lighter in color. Now that I have 4 socks, I wash 3 at a time in the washer, a double cycle with nothing added.
