Help on Herbie Overflow Design
Hi everyone, I am starting a build thread for a 150 gallon rimless, and I am creating a diagram for the tank builder to use as a guide. I know for certain that I will use the Herbie method for this build.
Generally you see the bulkheads for the 2 Herbie drains side-by-side in the overflow section. The backup drain is kept higher than the main drain by extending a standpipe coming from one bulkhead, so that the water level in the overflow has to be higher than the main drain in order for water to flow through the emergency drain. A little different than most builds, I will be drilling the side of the tank instead of underneath for the drain lines. In order to minimize the footprint of the overflow, I was thinking I would drill one hole directly above the other, instead of the usual side-by-side. I would not incorporate a standpipe with this design, water would simply flow through the bulkhead on the side of the tank. Do you see any issues with this design?

Noise for one might be an issue & the holes needed for bulkheads are much larger so the distance between then has to be taken into consideration.
Custom build for me would be Bean Animal System, possibly through an outside overflow box.
