New Tunze 9410 dc loud grinding noise

Hi Roger,

I need some advice. I purchased a 9410 dc this week and it is making a loud grinding noise. The noise goes away if I pinch the air line from the silencer to the skimmer. It will run pretty quiet for a little while and start making the noise again. I up’d my water level from 6.5 to 7 with no difference. It is also not generating hardly any skim. I turned it up to 100 percent with no results. I realize the skim could be part of the break in period, but I read most people run around 50 percent. The foam doesn’t even get close to the top at that level. I took an audio clip of the noise and then pinched the line, so you could hear a difference. Not sure if the pump is faulty and I need to return the skimmer.
Thanks.

Jason

The motor coil is misaligned and we need to replace the pump, I can send a new pump, can you email me a copy of the receipt? In general this skimmer would be run with the pump at about 30-40% power. The coil is too high so the impeller rubs the intake and is slowed and makes noise. email is Tunze at sbcglobal dot net.

Thanks Roger! I sent my receipt along with a sound clip. The first 2 seconds is the noise and the last 3 seconds is after I pinched the airline. I will also mention my apex shows it pulling 15 Watts at max power, which seems low per the specs.

The specs are wrong, it should be 15W, before we started making it we found a coil winding change that dramatically reduced the power consumption.
