T5 + 250w halides
I've been running an ATI 8x80w for the past few months, which I actually find grows my sps really well. As I read more and more and explode my head each night, I begin to drift back to my "other lighting", which was 3x 250w HQI radiums in lumenmax large reflectors (2 lumenmax and 1 Hamilton 20x20)
I miss the dancing lights and the shimmer. I think I would like to go back to the halides. My tank is 72 X 30 wide X 24" tall. The reflectors I have are 22" wide How do you guys add the t5 lights to the halide arrangement. I've been looking, but am not sure how to get that done.

My light has four 36"T5's and three 250wMH. The combo is a grow monster.

That's what I'm kind of thinking. The tank is 72 long, so was thinking 2x 80w T5 in front and behind the halides. I figured I would do blue plus or actinics, or both. I don't know.

have you thought about going led + t5? you get the shimmer with less heat and much more energy efficient.

I've tried led, and to be honest, I wasn't impressed at all. My tank is in the basement, and I'm forever having heaters on, which costs a fortune here in Ontario
I prefer big heat and big lighting. It's all sps, and the shadowing is a huge concern, as well as the actual longevity of the LED fixtures, not the marketing spin

Here's another scenario.
I can borrow a couple of 400w ballasts, and put 20k radiums in my existing fixtures. Or stick with 250s run on m80 ballasts

The 250's will last longer than the 400's.

but the 400s will look better and give you the heat you need.

That can be a problem if you don't like the look of it and have to get a canopy which doesn't help heat issues. Also jumping on the "do 400w s if you can deal with the heat and costs" train. Other option is buying a nice hammy or giesmann fixture, but they don't offer as great of reflectors as the lumenmaxes.

I will have it in a canopy. I have 2 22x22 lumenmax and a single Hamilton 20x20.
I also have sea swirls on the eurobracing. Why is this so HARD!
