Ordered 150 pounds of dry reef rock from Billy's reef connection. Looks to be good stuff, to start aquascape and adding water this weekend.

Finished the rock. I tired using all sorts of products to get the rock to stay together. I ended up drilling the rock putting acrylic rods through it and using pond foam to glue the rocks together. It was a nightmare setting this up.

I also started to make water. It's a very slow process, about 50 gals in 24 hours. The Arizona heat doesn't help.

Started to fill the tank with water, finished the control panel, and double checked all fitting and pipe.

So I have had two bulkheads crack, coming home to a large puddle in my living room twice had been disheartening.

I have been cycling my tank. Currently I have zero ammonia, 10 nitrates, and one nitrites. Ph is 7.74 off my reefkeeper.

Replaced the bulkheads, added 2 clowns and watched my ammonia, nitrate, and nitrates. All read zero, specially after I added Chaeto to the sump. of course for Christmas I received several fish as Christmas gifts from my family.

I’m finding it hard not to over feed, I always feel like I feed to much. All fish are healthy and eating. My wife bought a coral beauty, and I had a few emerald crabs in my tank. The coral beauty continued to go up to the crabs for a cleaning, one day they ripped off half of his front fin . Bought a cleaner shrimp the next day, he seems to hang around the shrimp more now.

I did have a break out of algae, I used a plastic brush and Turkey Baster to clean 90% of the rock. Lot of work. I didn’t have any filter socks in my sump. But after scraping off the algae my skimmer went nuts. I learned my lesson, I now have a large filter sock at the beginning of my sump.

Here’s how’s it’s looking now

I do have some purple spots smaller than a BB growing on my rock, I hope it’s healthy

This is the purple spots, maybe someone can tell me what it is? I’m hoping coralline algae.
They are growing in areas of higher flow, and they don’t look fuzzy. Thanks

Should I take action? Or let it run its course?

Every tank goes through this stage when it's just been set up. You can siphon it off when doing your water changes or blast it off with a turkey baster. As long as your nitrates and phosphates don't get high this is just a phase that will pass in time.
