Noticed my first hitchhikers - some sort of button polyp

I also noticed what seemed to be a dime sized nassarius snail while I was putting the LR in the tank. I my other tank, I had a Pencil Urchin as a hitchhiker. Talk about an algae mower! If you have a green hair algae problem, pick up an urchin!

It is, I think I like checking out the LR more than watching fish.

Thanks guys! Sorry for tempting you mitch. Wait until I start fragging some xenia, neon green leathers, and zoas. I'm also on the lookout for a mini carpet and sexy shrimp as well.

You are correct. it is a small mag float for round tanks. Since it is small, it got reused from my previous reef bowl. There is also a thermometer in the same corner.

Thanks Henry! I can't either. I'm going to try to find the time to frag a few zoas and some xenia this weekend. I also have a few mushrooms that can be split up fairly easy.

The green ones look like they might be Radioactive Dragon Eyes. The ones with orange middles look like Eagle Eyes.

I don't claim to be an expert though.

Cool, thanks for your guess. I'm going to look those two up on an id thread and see if I agree.

I'd say that's accurate. Those are very very common zoas so you'll see some differences in the pics people have. Not all are exactly alike, but they're all close. They're good growers and look great when the mat grows out.

The leds are doing fantastic! I'm getting coraline growth, new zoanthid polyps, hitchiker polyps have quadrupled, xenia grows well (just cut 3 frags), refugium chaeto growing great, and zero nuisance algae!

I'll take and upload pics Monday.

The DIY LED light is working great.

Full Tank Shot - re-organized the rockwork to eradicate a Gorilla Crab

Polyps - There were 2, now there are 6

Zoanthid - Was 4, now 5

Simply stunning. What's the total cost investment since your inception on this? (Minus things you already had, LR sand etc). I'm thinking of picking up a 2.5 at the LFS and wanna know how far along I can get for under 100 bucks.

Good question gmate. As far as equipment is concerned, the pump, a few sheets of plexiglass, and the resistors used in constructing the light are the only things purchased. Everything else I had laying around. I think you could estimate the following:

Tank & lid- $15 Walmart
Heater - $15 Walmart or petco (may not need heater depending on the temp stability of the room)
Pump - $25 lfs or online
Plexi - $10 google plexi or plastic in your city
Glue/caulk - $8
Bag of poly quilt batting - $5 walmart
DIY led light - $15 (see my led build thread)

You should be in business for around $100!
