Wanted: Xenia

I'm pretty new to posting here but thought I would ask. I used to have a great colony of red sea pulsing Xenia from Beyond the Reef. It was great while it lasted but let's just say that for as nice as they are, I would never have them move a tank for me again. They plugged the heater core directly into the wall outlet and fried everything. They tried to make good on it but it was never the same after that. Anyway... I am looking to see if anyone would like to sell me a small colony so I could start repopulating it. The tank is well established but I always miss seeing all the little hands. I live in Naperville and would be glad to drive anywhere in the Chicagoland area during the day to pick it up.

As I am far from being an expert I don't know much about pink xenia and blue xenia... I just picture red sea as being white with shorter "fingers". Additional help and advice is also much appreciated as I have learned so much from this forum over the years.

Thanks So Much in Advance,

Jeff B

Since you're just learning, may I suggest not putting Xenia in your tank. It is a weed that most eventually come to hate. I had a 29 that was absolutely covered with it on every wall and glass. It migrates and nothing eats it. I've spent a lot of time trying to kill it, don't make the same mistake.

I actually have been in the hobby for about 7 years now. What I meant about pink and blue xenia is that I don't know if they differ much from red sea xenia other than mildly in shape and color. I originally started with a single stalk and as you said, it indeed grew like a weed. I just miss having it in the tank and I was looking for someone locally versus ordering online and hoping for the best.

Thanks for the response

Jeff B

I have some pom pom Xenia if you're interested. It's the shorter type, maybe 1.5-2". You may be referring to Xenia elongata which I've seen referred to as Red Sea Xenia. I'd love a clump of that too as I lost mine when I moved from TN.

Here's an article on Xenia if you care to read:
http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-02/ac/feature/

Let me know if you want the Pom Pom. My office is in Naperville.

Great article and that is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks so much. Please contact me whenever it's convenient for you and we can talk details. I'm right around Ogden and Naper and would be happy to drive to your office, or whatever it's convenient.

Thanks Again

My 65 is full of it, going to be taking that tank down in the near future. In the meantime I could give you a rock that is covered.

Can post a picture of it in the AM.

I got my starter chunks from @Toddrtrex and have grown like weeds. I'm out in hoffman estates if you'd like a chunk or two.

Yep, it is up and running, but will be taking it down in a couple of months. We are going to be moving (( building a new house )) to Lemont, and will be staying with family during most of the build. So, I am just going to have a temp tank running to keep the important stuff with me.

Thanks. It should be fun. At least it is the same builder as we have for the townhouse.
They are suppose to start in October and finish in March. In between that we are having a wedding too. Going to be a crazy fall.
