Yep, Japanese dragon. I got a killer deal on it. I'd prefer not to say as I am really good friends with my LFS owner, I got it wholesale.

I love eel photo threads. Real lookers, everyone.
Only my smaller fimbriated would come out for pictures today.

[QUOTE=helicoprion;17829305]That fimbriated is stunning. How is your spotted? I've had two and they were both vicious.
The spotted are the most aggressive that I've ever kept which makes feeding time pretty interesting. The larger of the pair seems to have figured out which part of the eggcrate opens and seems determined to remove one of my fingers. I'd say they are as vicious if not more so than tessies.

I do not hand feed. I can't really put my hands in the tank as it is, but hopefully they'll calm down with age. If they do I still wouldn't hand feed, though.

Fimbriateds are protogynous hermaphrodites. As mine are not adults yet, I'm assuming they're both female . I hope to end up with a m/f pair in the end.

Got some pictures of my other one today, the striped one this time. She's much more shy so it was a bit challenging, and it took a while to lure her out. The pictures are blurry, but nice enough imo anyway. I guess I just like the poses. I only wish I caught them both in focus.
Funny to think the striped one was bite size only 3 months ago:

Hannibal is ~ 4' long - A Gymnothorax Undulatus (Undulated Moray) that I got when he? was a tiny little guy of about 16". That was 22 or so years ago. He lives in a 150 with a very large hermit crab and a couple of cleaner shrimp. He has eaten every other thing I have put in with him. (Hence the name) I can't post any pictures right now - work blocks a lot of sites, but if I remember, I'll do it tonight.
Eels are interesting critters, but remember that they can easily live for well over 30 years in captivity. Be prepared to have them for a very long time.

Lukfox - I believe all morays start life as hermaphrodites... regardless those are great looking! Have I already asked you about their attitude? I had one fimby for a short period of time (tank had seam leak, had to give him away, never buy from glasscages).
Billdogg - I NEED to see pics of your undulated!!!! I'm thinking of doing a 240 at some point in the future and that would be at the top of my list. How is it's attitude? The fact that you've had him for 22 years is outstanding! |

This paper details the different sexual conditions morays can have. I was so excited when I found this paper haha. It's right around the highlighted hermaphrodite area. The whole moray section is really worth a read or scan through.
Sorry to hear about the leaky tank! That must have been a huge hassle. So far my fimbies are a bit hard to work with. It was easier when I had just one. They go into feeding mode whenever I open the lids, and even after a good feeding they still come over to see what I'm doing and that makes me a bit nervous haha. I hope they calm down with age or get less interested when I'm cleaning the glass, as fending off two of them can be a little tricky.

My fimby is still a beast! He is about 3ft and a terror. I love him to death though! My fingers do not go anywhere near that water unless he has just eaten and is full. Prior to me getting him he ate a lionfish. It is just him and his porky buddy, they do very well together.
