Gem vs Purple tang!!!!!

Hey all,

I have a 210g aquarium that has the following in it:

a. Gem Tang
b. Yellow Tang
c. Purple Tang
d. Sailfin Tang

and many other species of fish.

The story is simple, for a long time all the Tang's were living happily together...until recently the Gem Tang decided that he likes to chase the Purple Tang non-stop!
So, in an effort to stop this fighting, yesterday I went out and bought one more Purple Tang and one more Yellow Tang. Now I have 2 x Purple Tang's and 2 x Yellow Tang's. This has not seemed to have changed anything.
The Gem Tang still chases the original Purple Tang!

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get them to stop!?
Thanks

try feeding them more and rearrange the tank a bit.

Good Luck with that.....You need a 500 gallon aquarium for that many tangs....

Unfortunately I have to agree with RBU1. While I have a gem tang, it is the ONLY tang in a 350 gallon tank and I would never put another conspecific in with it.

i agree your aquarium is too small for those tangs but one thing you can try is dividing the aquarium with eggcrate for a week separating the purple on one side and the gem on another

Actually, your advice is fine as far as I have seen, but it is unfortunate for the original poster who has a problem.

i have 11 tangs they all school together... the only problem i have is my PT chases one of the three yellows.. no idea what he has against him..

they all have been in for several months. this is how i did it,,, now only time will tell how they will get along in the future.. i do fee 6-8 times a day..
tank is 7ft x 3 ft and 30inch tall

each were added at least 2 months apart for qting, no ich whatsoever

first added 3 yellow tangs and des sailfin

then added PT

Then added powder brown and powder blue..

next, Achilles, orange shoulder and Hawaiian blonde naso all at once

added my blue hippo last, no one cares about him....

I watch them the entire time im home, or other people do, its in the middle of my house, so far so good....

Hey, just thank god its not the other way around! you dont want that gem tang getting killed!

For the guys that do not now gem tangs are extremely aggressive and can look after them salves
I have seen a gem take on a purple tang twist the size and harass it
I have seen a gem tang of a friend harassing and killing a bigger sailfin tang
My 12cm gem taking on a 25cm chrysurus angel

From what I have seen it can be the most aggressive of all the zebrasoma tangs

Soon I will do a combo of a black tang and a gem tang with my Achilles hybrid
The last one I will put in will be the gem tang

Any status update from the OP? It's been six months. I would like to know what happened and whether the recommendations were accurate.

....would it make a difference if they were put in at the same time and of all the same size, say 1.5 inches?

Not really i mean, thats a LOT of tang for a 120 gallon tank, and they're zebrasomas.. not the best combination.
