Skimmer: Less air = more bubbles?????

I acquired a tunze 9410 from a friend. Why do i see bubbles form lower in the skimmer body when i restrict air intake but when i allow maximum airflow the bubbles seem to not reach as low?

Not familiar with the skimmer, but guessing that more air results in bigger, faster rising bubbles; not simply more of the smaller sized bubbles you get when using less air?

If so, just fine-tune it until you find the sweet spot.

+1 smaller bubbles = less resistance to sink.

it's because when you choke off the air you are pushing more water through the skimmer downwards which pulls the bubbles lower. More air =less water throughput. less air = more water going down and out.
