New Water station build.
Rodgers rebuild made me finally get off my butt and get this thing going. You guys gotta keep me accountable for the rest over the next few days.
I picked up these pepper barrels on a recent work trip to orlando for $30 each. Even after a light bleaching today they still smell of pickled peppers. They are air drying but any other suggestions to fully clean these things? Things I wanted to accomplish with this build. 1. Be able to pump RO water to my top off and my sons fresh tank. 2. Be able to pump my old water during a change to my garage sink. 3. Be able to pump new salt back into my tank. It will all be done manually with switches and valves. This is my current idea. Any suggestions to improve on this? |

Glad I could get u motivated. What u r doing is pretty close to my old setup. It will work fine. The barrels will always smell a bit like pickles I used those barrels about 8 years ago in a previous setup. It's a nice upgrade from the old way u did water changes. U will love it. Keep posting pics and progress.

U may want to think about adding some unions to make it easy to take it apart for maint and if u ever move to a differnt house easy to move and set back up

Hey guys do you think it would cause a problem or reduction in efficiency from my RO/DI unit if the Outlet from the RO/DI is a few feet below the inlet to the RO storage container?
I need shelving area for my fish stuff and Im thinking of moving the RO barrel up higher and putting a shelf between the barrels for easier use rather than above both barrels where I would need a step ladder.(I'm vertically challenged) |

Shouldn't be an issue with just a few ft.

Do you guys this is unsafe? Im worried about a tipping hazard. I may have to cut off the top and just move the barrel to what is now the middle shelf.

Not worried so much about tipping but it does look like the screws r holding the shelves up? That is the part that scares me

Unfortunately its the only way the unit fits in that space allowing me to still get the bottom barrel in and out. Any suggestions on how to reinforce it? |

Now that I look at it again. Yes tipping is a concern u didn't brace it side to side eat her. I would skin the back and sides with plywood to help min. Side to side movement.
That whole thing scares me the way it is. The bottom 1 would be easy to support with wood under it that touched the floor but for the top 1 I don't see an easy way. The pics are very small. The first pics at beginning of thread r large but those 2 r just thumb nails. Any way to post larger pics? When I click on them they disappear in 3 seconds

Your right. Rebuilt everything today.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1406851906.330300.jpg Im going to have to attach the shelves on the backside(rightside of the photo). It will be inconvenient to get to, because of the hot water heater, but a much better solution. |

Looks much better. If u don't want to skin 3 sides for stability u could run one 2x4 on 3 sides diagonally from a bottom corner to the opposite top corner on that side. This will help a lot. Not as good as plywood on 3 sides but will help with stability.

Use nuts and bolts to reinforce the structure and pick up some ratcheting tie downs at Harbor Freight for anti tipping stability.

I rebuilt the structure so i shouldnt need bolts but i thought about using those before i tore it all apart.
The ratchet tie down for the top barrel is a great idea though. |

New Water station build.
Started dry fitting this thing. Almost done. Just one more run to HD for a few more plumbing parts . Im going to have to come up with a final solution on power to the pump. Probably going to run a new circuit from the breaker box thats about 10 feet away. Last edited by RiddleEagle18; 08/18/2014 at 05:31 PM. |
