Gorgeous display and very impressive fish list. However, I can't help but notice that many of the corals are a little rough. Is this from picking from some of the butterflies and angels, or other reasons?

Very sorry to hear about the loss of the pep

I dont think there are any adjectives that can sum up how great your system looks!!
Tangs, angels, butterflies and SPS!! And the most beautiful specimens of each to boot... congrats on TOTM.
Other than the HLLE you've mentioned in your threads, due to carbon or ozone, etc., what are some QT measures you take when dealing with fragile and rare fish??
Ive had my own debate going on whether the more delicate species should go right into a mature environment sans medication or should they truly be quarantined in a slightly more sterile, seperate system and treated prophylactically?
Cant wait for your next systems to be up and running! Future Tanks of the Decade!

Thx griseum. Very much. Look on this fish issue it's really debatable. I have quarantined fish and all was good and then as soon as they go into system some stress happens or they get chased and fish don't make it. And they were fine in quarantine. I think bigger more adult angels should probably be watched or dipped for flukes or run through prazzi. But that doesn't mean they can't get flukes in your tank. I think as long as your system is not spreading disease, an occasional fish with ich can be trapped and caught and treated. Same for flukes. At end of the day if you trust your local fish store for prazzi or copper and then put sensitive fish in same water as system like a refugium with rock and get then eating from water column and be able to fight way into main tank, that's a big start. We will have multiple tanks in 180 gallon range in new house for just watching and copper and prazzi. It just seems to me if you get a school of anthias, they may do better directly in main display then in some sterile hospital tank where feeding is also an issue. So call me an in betweener. I'm not a quarantine and treat everything guy at all.

Thanks !
That's right about where I fall, at the moment. In between.
Dipping angels seems like a must nowadays, as does prazi treating them.
If you get them fat and eating, the immune system can do a whole lot too.

Brent h. I think I have reached the breaking point. I'm going to try a sulfur denitrator on this tank. If I like it and have good experience I may use one or two on my new builds. I added some fish and my nitrates are back to 20 ppms already dosing close to limit of vodka vinegar.

I've looked into sulphur denigrators as well.... Wanted to try carbon dosing first ... Keep us posted on what u think of the denitrator I have same thing with vinegar and vodka get stn at somewhat high doses ...I'm using zeostart 3 as my carbon source lately it goes along way and doesn't seem to cause stn as much

Amazing tank......inspiring. Can't wait to see what the new tank looks like when completed. I guess you will be slowly transferring everything from the 900 gallon tank there?

Yes frank. I have feeling most of the sps will go into 2200 and we can rush that tank with live rock etc. The big one is dry Marco rock and needs to be cycled and stable. And have feeling I will start with fish and maybe even prazzi before I pull it out and put corals in.

Andrew,
at one point in time our reef club, Long Island Reef Association, (LIRA), used to have tank tours at a member's house, (sponsered by the club). Maybe one day we can have a tank tour at yours when the project is up and running.....I'd love to see it in person. Regarding the 900 gal tank....again it is a thing of beauty!!!
Frank

Andrew,
you can join whenever you want......typically the meetings run every month however there is no meeting in July and I think our family fun day at the aquarium in riverhead is scheduled in August. We also sponser NERAC, (I believe the acronym stands for Northeast Reef Association Conference or something close)...usually in March..or thereabouts.
Here is the past NERAC link

Frank

P.S. I will hold you to the tank tour, (LOL).
