Valentini puffer ate crab

Well I watched helplessly as my Valentini puffer ate one of my Halloween hermit crabs. Now I'm I'm wondering if the other 5 are doomed. The one he ate was coming out of its shell when he got it. Maybe it's a bad idea to keep crabs?

I'm pretty sure it is strongly ill advised to keep any crustaceans (snails, shrimp, crabs) that you have any attachment to in the same tank as a puffer fish. They love to eat them all I believe. I would love to own a puffer fish, but I like my shrimp and crabs.

puffers are not invert safe. corals should be fine but any snail, hermit, crab, shrimp may be on the menu.

Yeah he picks at the snails from time to time but can't get to the soft parts. I don't keep shrimps because he ate one I tried. And yes, the corals appear to be off the menu, although he does look at some of them awful closely sometimes.. as if studying them.

That's what they eat in the wild and that help wear down their teeth. I would not expect nothing different.
