Looking for a clown that will NOT host
I recently had to pull my clown pair as they were trashing my corals. I don’t have a nem so they hosted in my LPS and really beat the corals up.
Is there a clown that won’t host corals, or is less likely to? Captive bred maybe? |

clowns don't host. anemones, or in your case, LPS hosts. but I know what you mean.
it is instinct and in their DNA. |

My ocellaris pair have left everything alone so far. I have a RBTA still recovering that I would like it to host the pair once it's big enough though.

Yea. Basically every clown will likely find something eventually. In the wild clowns are never found without an anemone.

One thing you can do is put a 4” flowerpot or a 3”x6” tile in your tank. That should take care of their needs. Of course the downside is that neither will be particular pretty to look at.

Euphyllia LPS seems irresistible to clowns in the absence of a proper host. I've even had them prefer a torch coral as host to a BTA (BTW it's not grammar, rather ignorance).

Or you can just add a host anemone in for them

My two clowns will only host with a powerhead, despite having 3 perfectly good RBTA’s!

I went with some tank-bred Gladiator occys. My brother has some tank-bred black ice occys and they have never gone into corals.
p.s. - I had an RBTA at one point, but it quickly outgrew my tank. |
